BARI Research — the Babasaheb Ambedkar Research Institute — explores Buddhism, history, and rational thought through the vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and the wider tradition of India’s social reformers.

Our work sits at the meeting point of evidence and ideas. We examine archaeological discoveries, ancient inscriptions, and historical records — from Ashoka’s rock edicts to recently unearthed Buddhist sites across India — and we read them with care, asking what they actually tell us rather than what we’ve been told to believe.

What we do

We investigate India’s Buddhist past and the physical evidence that keeps reshaping it: lost stupas, forgotten relics, and inscriptions that survived two thousand years. We study the rational roots of Buddhism and what they offer a modern, scientific worldview. And we engage honestly with caste, society, and the thinkers — Ambedkar, Phule, Kuvempu, and others — who challenged injustice and imagined a more equal India.

Why it matters

History is often inherited as story rather than fact. Distorted narratives harden into common sense, and inconvenient truths get quietly buried. Our purpose is to bring evidence back into the conversation — to recover what was overlooked, question what was assumed, and share knowledge that helps people think for themselves.
